
The markets of the Dordogne by bike
Following any of our self guided cycling tours of the Dordogne, you will come across several traditional markets, offering fresh local produce and artisanal wares. The country villages of the Perigord burst into colour and vibrancy on market days, roads are blocked off to cars, as the stall holders line the streets, displaying fruit, vegetables, cheese, wine, olives, nuts, bread, meats & poultry, foie gras & patés, clothes & hats, leather goods, wickerwork, pottery etc.
Every village has an outdoor market once a week at least, the markets usually run from 08:00 – 13:00 (8 am to 1 pm).
The weekly markets in many villages are held in the medieval central squares, with old covered marketplaces – dating from 13th to 15th centuries.
