Touring Options
The Wild Boar Tour can start and finish in Lalinde or Les Eyzies for practical travel reasons. Both Lalinde and Les Eyzies have regular train connections to Bordeaux and Paris. Lalinde is close to Bergerac airport, with several daily flights from the U.K.

Wild Boar Tour
6 days (daily distances 40-60 km)
2 nights Lalinde, 2 nights Belvès, 2 nights Les Eyzies, 1 night Lalinde
Arrive in Lalinde – overnight stay, tour starts following day.
(This tour can also start and finish in Les Eyzies.)
Day 1:
Issigeac Loop Ride
- Lalinde – the first English bastide, founded in 1267 by Henry III.
- Issigeac – this ancient village has been the site of a Gallo Roman settlement, a Merovingian necropolis and a 6th century monastery. The labyrinth of narrow roads in the centre show medieval stone houses alongside 14th & 15th century timber frame houses particular to Issigeac.
- Monsac – this small stone village has vestiges of habitation from the Paleolithic era, Roman and Gaul periods.
Overnight in Lalinde.
Day 2:
Lalinde to Belvès
- Molières – the unfinished English bastide.
- St.Avit Sénieur – timeless village with a massive fortified church, origins 11th century.
- Monpazier – founded in 1285 by Edward I, king of England and duke of Aquitaine, Monpazier is the finest example and best preserved bastide in the region.
- Cadouin – the village grew around the 12th century Cistercian abbey; the cloisters feature 3 different architectural periods.
- Belvès – medieval hilltop village with a 15th century covered market, turreted houses, bell towers, and terraces.
Overnight in Belvès.
Day 3:
Castles Loop Ride
- Daglan – beautifully restored medieval village.
- Château de Castelnaud – 13th century medieval castle with a museum featuring war in the medieval ages.
- Château des Milandes – This 15th century Renaissance castle was eventually purchased by Josephine Baker; the castle tells her story.
Overnight in Belvès.
Day 4:
Belvès to Les Eyzies
- Meyrals – known for the many artists who live there; visits are welcome.
- Château de Commarque – medieval castle occupied by 6 families during the middle ages and built on a prehistory site.
- Marquay – charming stone village with lunch options.
- Abri du Cap Blanc – a prehistoric sculpted frieze of horses, bison, and deer covering 13m of rock face (visits in French only).
- Les Eyzies – the European capital of prehistory, home to the National Prehistory museum.
Overnight in Les Eyzies.
Day 5:
Prehistory Loop Ride
- Grotte de Rouffignac – features galleries adorned with paintings and engravings of horses, ibex, rhinoceroses, bison, and a great number of mammoths, including “The Patriarch”.
- Rouffignac, Plazac – choice of café/restaurants for lunch in these villages.
- La Roque St Christophe – this vast troglodyte site has been inhabited since the Upper Paleolithic Age (50,000 years ago).
- La Madeleine – prehistoric rock shelter, the prehistoric deposits found here established the characteristics of the Magdalenian culture. The 9th century troglodytic fort built into the cliff face was inhabited until early 20th century.

Day 6:
Les Eyzies to Lalinde
- Limeuil – this old fortress village was for many centuries a port and safe haven for heavy barges. Limeuil’s role as a medieval arsenal and watchtower was established due to its strategic location at the confluence of the Vézère and Dordogne rivers.
- Trémolat – with its 12th century Romanesque church, lunch in a café or restaurant. The afternoon’s ride follows a riverside path.

Two Rivers Tour
6 days (daily distances 30-35 km)
1 night in Les Eyzies , 2 nights in Siorac-en-Perigord/Le Coux , 2 nights in St.Cybranet/Vezac/La Roque Gageac, 2 nights in Les Eyzies
Arrive in Les Eyzies – overnight stay, tour starts following day.
Day 1:
Two Rivers
- Les Eyzies – the European capital of prehistory, home to the National Prehistory museum.
- Today’s ride follows the Vézère river to the confluence at Limeuil, then across the bridge to follow the Dordogne river upstream.
- Limeuil – this old fortress village was for many centuries a port and safe haven for heavy barges. Limeuil’s role as medieval arsenal and watchtower was established due to its strategic location at the confluence of the Dordogne and Vézère rivers
Overnight in Siorac-en-Perigord or Le Coux.
Day 2:
Bastide Loop Ride
- Cadouin – this charming village grew around a 12th century Cistercian abbey founded in 1115 ; the cloisters feature three different architectural periods.
- Belvès – medieval bastide & village with turreted houses, terraces, and bell towers.
Overnight in Siorac-en-Perigord or Le Coux.
Day 3:
Siorac-en-Perigord to St.Cybranet/La Roque Gageac
- The route traces the valleys of the rivers Vallée, Lousse & Céou, passing through St.Laurent la Vallée, St.Pompont, Daglan.
- Daglan – Beautifully restored medieval village.
- La Roque Gageac – one of the prettiest villages in France, set between the cliff & the river.
Overnight in St.Cybranet or Vezac or La Roque Gageac.
Day 4:
St.Cybranet/La Roque Gageac
Itinerary options :
- Canoe trip – on the Dordogne, one of the cleanest rivers in Europe.
- Domme – hilltop bastide overlooking the Dordogne valley. Templar knights were imprisoned here after the infamous swoop on Friday 13th October, 1307.
- Chateau de Beynac – this formidable stronghold, with 13th century keep, was one of the 4 baronies of the Perigord in the middle ages. The castle was held by Richard the Lionheart until his death.
- Jardins de Marqueyssac – walk through the hanging gardens, which offer stunning views of the Dordogne valley.
- Sarlat – market town famous for its narrow medieval streets, restored Gothic & Renaissance houses.
Overnight in St.Cybranet or Vezac or La Roque Gageac.
Day 5:
St.Cybranet/La Roque Gageac to Les Eyzies
- Château de Castelnaud – 13th century medieval castle with a museum featuring war in the medieval ages.

Prehistory Loop Ride

- The prehistory sites of La Roque St.Christophe & La Madeleine can be included in today’s ride – with extra kms.

Family Tour
6 days (daily distances 25 – 30km)
This tour focuses on the Dordogne valley, and to the South of the valley. The roads on this route are always quiet, even in July & August – ideal for families with children. The tour includes medieval villages, bastides, castles, canoeing & swimming options. The tour is usually 6 days, but can be adjusted for 4, 5, 7 or 8 days. Please contact us for full details.
